  1. Pathology: due to damage to the brain which results in a variety of motor disorders

Classification:

  • Diplegia
  • Hemiplegia- Same side Upper Extremity and Lower extremity
  • Triplegia- 3 extremities involved
  • Quadriplegia- all 4 extremities are involved
  1. PT Evaluation:
    • Look at the patient’s mobility
    • Assess the patient’s tone
  1. Intervention
    • Stretching
    • Positioning to inhibit reflexive reactions
    • Promote weight bearing
    • Tone inhibition
    • Encourage midline
    • Provide sensory input
    • Use of assistive devices as needed – loftstrand crutches, walkers
