Hanover University Student Selects TFA for Capstone Project

We are so excited to welcome Marine Nipiosyan, a second-year Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Student from Hanover University, to our team! She will be completing her Capstone project with Therapists for Armenia from September to December. Read below to learn more about Marine!

“With nine years of experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in California, I have developed a well-rounded clinical foundation across inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation and home health care. These experiences inspired me to continue my education and pursue my OTD at Hanover College, where I am now in my second year. As part of the OTD program, students complete a 14-week capstone project designed to integrate advanced clinical knowledge, leadership, research, and advocacy skills while addressing a significant need within the field of occupational therapy. When selecting a capstone project, I wanted an opportunity that would create lasting impact while also reflecting my personal values. I first discovered Therapists for Armenia in 2020 when they were seeking healthcare professionals to support soldiers and civilians in need of rehabilitation resources. After visiting Armenia for the first time in 2023, I felt a deep connection to the mission of TFA, as it combined my professional skills with my cultural connection and passion for serving others.

In the first month of my capstone placement with TFA, I have gained meaningful experience collaborating with TFA mentors and engaging in innovative initiatives. One highlight has been my support with Azad 3D, where I have assisted with translating interviews from Armenian individuals who use or are in need of assistive devices, and supported therapists trialing 3D-printed designs. This work has broadened my perspective on the role of occupational therapy in global health and reinforced why I chose this profession. Through this capstone, I aim to continue strengthening my skills in resource development, interdisciplinary teamwork, and culturally responsive practice, while contributing to the growth of rehabilitation services in Armenia.”
