- Pathology: due to damage to the brain which results in a variety of motor disorders
Classification:
- Diplegia
- Hemiplegia- Same side Upper Extremity and Lower extremity
- Triplegia- 3 extremities involved
- Quadriplegia- all 4 extremities are involved
- PT Evaluation:
- Look at the patient’s mobility
- Assess the patient’s tone
- Intervention
- Stretching
- Positioning to inhibit reflexive reactions
- Promote weight bearing
- Tone inhibition
- Encourage midline
- Provide sensory input
- Use of assistive devices as needed – loftstrand crutches, walkers
